Grassroots Innovation | Bamboo Bicycle, Thailand

Related to my earlier post on the subject of sustainable transportation, specifically on the Bamboo Bike Project from Ghana, Africa, here’s a look at similar projects across the world.

And as with the Ghana Project, these other bamboo initiatives also help impact lives of the local communities, either in providing the bamboo bikes as means of transportation for remote villagers, or to improve the quality of their lives through sales proceeds from the bikes.

THAILAND: Bamboo Bike Maker:

Currently there are two available models; Thai Silk [L], and Hilltribe [R]

Bamboo Bike Maker is based in Chiang Rai, in Northern Thailand, and was founded by Phil, an American who moved to Thailand as a missionary and is now is with the Chiang Rai International Christian School. Portion of bamboo bike sales proceeds will go toward various causes for the Akha, Karin, Hmong and Thai peoples in Northern Thailand. Interested in helping? Click here to find more info.
